A two-day intensive linoleum block carving workshop taught by Katharine in her Portland, Maine studio.

This class will be held on September 7th & 8th, 2024.

Tuition includes two days of class, all required materials, two lunches, and a Saturday cocktail hour after class.

This advanced course will cover reduction printing; using a single piece of linoleum, carved multiple times, to create a multicolor print. We will cover how to design a reduction print, how to set up your block and register it, carving techniques for reduction prints, and how to print your piece on a press.

Some previous linoleum carving experience is required as we will not be covering basic carving techniques. Class is open to students who have carving experience or have taken an introductory class previously. If you're not sure if this class is right for you, email questions to hello@katharinewatson.com and we will let you know!
Students will learn foundational techniques of reduction printing to create more complex prints, and then use the new techniques to create a final art print. The emphasis will be on trying new processes, experimentation, and taking creative risks, as well as finding your personal style. We will be printing on both of Katharine's tabletop presses during this workshop.

Class runs Saturday and Sunday 10-4, and includes lunch both days and a wine and cheese cocktail hour after class on Saturday. All materials included, and you will go home with your carved blocks and your completed work at the end (time and carving speed permitting).

This class is non-refundable. Class is limited to eight students and will run even if it isn't full. We will not be offering refunds for travel delays or cancellations, and we strongly recommend buying travel insurance that will cover the cost of your trip in case of disruptions to your plans. The class *is* transferrable between people if you wish to purchase it as a gift or give your place to someone else. The class *is not* transferrable between dates.

We will keep participants informed about updated Covid protocols by email.

Once you are registered, we can help recommend hotels or Airbnbs as well as activities in Portland. You can also check our "Maine" story highlight to see some of our favorite Maine restaurants, shops, and beaches.
